Alejandro Duran was born in Miami, Florida to Cuban parents. Passionate about community-led change, he has a lifelong commitment to empowering young people through legal literacy, civic participation, and advocacy for systemic issues that matter to him. He works for change through community organizations such as the Miami-Dade County Teen Court, serving as a youth attorney ensuring youth’s successful futures across dozens of cases, and the Youth Advisory Committee, in which he spearheads community initiatives tackling local issues. Bringing youth together, he created Law by Action Inc.—a student initiative and now nonprofit—with the aspiration of uniting youth to tackle local legal illiteracy and other issues concerning youth through initiatives such as policy forums and coordinated educational events. With such a transformative experience, CHCI NextGen facilitates an invaluable network with other youth change-makers and fuels his passion for youth leadership in policy and community.
