Christian Dieguez was born and raised in Pasadena, CA, and is the proud son of Peruvian and Guatemalan parents. A recent graduate from UC Berkeley with a B.A. in Political Science and a minor in Public Policy, he has drawn on his lived experiences and commitment to public service to address systemic barriers that limit access to opportunities and resources for historically underserved communities.

On campus, Christian served as a Research Analyst with the Berkeley Interdisciplinary Migration Initiative (BIMI), conducting research on immigration policy and strengthening community partnerships. As a Leadership Development Chair for Kappa Alpha Pi Pre-Law & Government Fraternity, he co-created and facilitated a semester-long leadership and professional development curriculum for 16 aspiring pre-law students. As a mentor in the NAVCAL Fellowship, he supported nontraditional college students in navigating UC Berkeley through academic, personal, and professional development. He also served as a K-12 Fellow with College Corps, supporting middle school students through academic mentoring and high school readiness. In recognition of his commitment to service, Christian was awarded the 2024 Chancellor’s Award for Public Service: The Robert J. and Mary Catherine Birgeneau Recognition Award for Service to Undocumented Students. Christian was also awarded the Cal Alumni Leadership Award, recognizing student leaders across campus for leadership in their community.

Outside of UC Berkeley, Christian has gained experience across local, state, and federal government. Through the UCDC Program, he served as a Legislative Intern in the Office of Congresswoman Judy Chu (CA-28), where he supported legislative research, constituent correspondence, and policy analysis. He also recently interned in the Government Affairs Division at the California Department of Education, where he analyzed state and federal education legislation, prepared policy memoranda, and tracked federal developments.

As a CHCI Public Policy Fellow, Christian wishes to continue demonstrating unwavering dedication to supporting others through advocacy, leadership, and community. He hopes to deepen his understanding of how lived experiences and policy can create meaningful change.
