Josue Calito-Cucul

Josue Calito-Cucul is the son of two rural Guatemalan immigrants. He was born and raised in Southwest Detroit, Michigan. Through witnessing the struggles of his parents, he developed a deep passion for legislation that keeps the American dream his parents chased, alive. In school, he participates in Model UN, debate, and Student Government. Outside of school, he participates in Cranbrook Horizons-Upward Bound, a trio program. Through these extracurriculars, he has connected with peers through events such as the late Michigan Youth in Government Spring Conference, where he won most outstanding blue Senator. He applied to CHCI NextGen to connect with peers that are just as passionate with similar roots as that of his own.
