Valeria Solis was born in El Paso, Texas, and raised in Ciudad Juárez, Mexico where her mother taught her the values of resilience, education, and community. Growing up along the US-Mexico border shaped her perspective on community support, identity, and justice. Valeria is a first-generation college student committed to using her education to help create positive change.
She is currently pursuing a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science with a minor in Legal Reasoning at the University of Texas at El Paso. In addition to her academic work, she has held several leadership positions across campus, including mentoring first-year students, and working on initiatives to implement and advance a student success center ensuring diverse voices are represented throughout campus. Valeria has actively been involved in the El Paso community, volunteering at local food pantries, providing Spanish-language support at U.S. citizenship workshops, and organizing events that empower the region’s youth.
Valeria hopes to continue her education by pursuing a master’s degree in public policy as well as a law degree to gain the necessary skills to represent and help her community. Her goal is to work in public policy, focusing on human rights and advocating for underrepresented communities worldwide.
As a CHCI Intern, Valeria hopes to amplify her voice on behalf of her community by gaining experience in the policy-making process. She looks forward to learning from inspiring leaders, building the tools to advocate effectively, and using that knowledge to lead and serve communities to a positive and meaningful change.
