Inclement Weather Proves No Match for CHCI Golfers
Supporters of 13th Annual Fiesta de Golf Weather the Storm, Raising More Than $280,000
On Monday, May 4, at the Courses at Andrews Air Force Base, CHCI supporters braved the rainy weather to participate in CHCI's 13th Annual Fiesta de Golf Scholarship Challenge with Chi Chi Rodriguez, presented by Toyota. Armed with umbrellas and additional rain gear, golfers adapted their game strategy to play in a nine-hole competition.

"This year's tournament was very successful in generating support for our talented Latino youth who want to achieve the dream of a college education," said Esther Aguilera, CHCI President & CEO. "Together, we have surpassed last year's fundraising cash total with more than $280,000 raised, and over $95,000 in in-kind donations."
Hall of Fame golfer Chi Chi Rodriguez, present thanks to Toyota, kicked off the event and offered putting tips and photo opportunities out on the course.
Several Members of Congress and the Honorable Jorge Dezcallar, Spanish Ambassador to the U.S. joined the festivities, which included a putting contest, raffle, and for the first time, a silent auction, all benefiting Latino youth scholarships.
Renowned chef and restaurateur Jose Andres also attended after hosting a pre-golf dinner with Chi Chi Rodriguez at his Oyamel Restaurant on Sunday night.
During the lunch program, 2006 CHCI Scholar Tito Escobar shared his personal experience on how receiving financial help from CHCI was critical to his success in college.
