This year’s theme—Keeping the Promise: Unity, Strength, Leadership—celebrates CHCI’s 34 years of positive change, and sets the organization’s and community’s sights on what is needed for a brighter future for all Latinos in the 21st century. CHCI Vice President of Programs Participates in International Exchange Program in Spain

William Rafael Gil, vice president of CHCI Programs, was selected out of more than 300 applicants to travel to Spain and participate in the prestigious Jovenes Lideres Hispanos Program (Young Hispanic Leaders), a week-long cultural exchange program funded by the Foundation Carolina in collaboration Spanish Ministry of Foreign Affairs. A total of 15 individuals were selected to participate in the program, which was held in Madrid and the Autonomous Region of the Basque Country, during the week of May 16-22. (More)

CHCI Congratulates the 2010-11 Fellows Class

On Thursday, May 12, CHCI held its graduation ceremony at the Library of Congress honoring its 2010-11 fellowship class. More than 100 people were in attendance to commemorate the completion of the nine-month program.

Seven CHCI Graduate Fellows and 13 CHCI Public Policy Fellows experienced tremendous personal and professional growth as they explored the world of policymaking firsthand, and honed their leadership and career development skills through interaction with preeminent legislative role models. (More)

2010-11 CHCI Fellowship Class Raises $8,000 for CHCI Scholarships

Each year, participants in CHCI’s Fellowship Program are asked to raise money to help fund scholarships as a way of expressing appreciation for the opportunities given to them and ensuring those opportunities are available to future students.  On Tuesday, April 26, the 2010-11 CHCI Fellowship Class partnered with Capital Yacht Charters to host its scholarship fundraiser.  With all proceeds benefitting CHCI scholarships, the class set an impressive goal to raise $10,000 to help “Keep the Promise” to the next generation of Latino leaders. (More)

CHCI Ready to Lead Program Makes History with Volunteer Participation

More Than 50 Local Volunteers Participate in its Mentoring Power Hour

Nearly 270 high school students helped fill the Miami Dade College, North Campus to participate in CHCI's Ready to Lead (R2L) program held Saturday, May 14. The devoted students came from various high schools in the Miami area to spend their Saturday participating in workshops regarding college planning, leadership development and financial literacy. Solomón P. Ortiz Scholarship Endowment Fund Surpasses $100,000 Goal!

CHCI is proud to announce that the Solomón P. Ortiz Scholarship Endowment has surpassed its $100,000 goal! CHCI is grateful to BP's generous gift of $20,000, which made reaching this goal possible. The Endowment will provide a scholarship for a deserving Latino college student every year in perpetuity as a token of CHCI's esteem for the Honorable Solomón P. Ortiz. (More)

2011 Fiesta de Golf Scholarship Challenge Highlights

CHCI’s 15th Annual Fiesta de Golf Scholarship Challenge was held on Monday, May 2, at the courses of Andrews Air Force Base, MD. Participation in the event raised more than $230,000 for CHCI’s Scholarship Program benefitting Latino youth. CHCI would like to congratulate its top three tournament winners: T-Mobile, first place; NIKE, second place; and The Coca-Cola Company, third place. (More)
