Education Takes Center Stage at Public Policy Conference

On Monday, September 13, 2010, during CHCI's Public Policy Conference, CHCI Chair Rep. Nydia M. Velázquez will deliver the keynote speech for the opening luncheon, America's Promise: Education, focusing on the national imperative for the Latino community to raise college graduation rates. Rep. Rubén Hinojosa and cable network Nickelodeon will receive the CHCI Service Award for their work to advance the educational attainment of Latinos and all Americans. CHCI will also award its 2010 Distinguished Alumnus Award to Assistant Secretary for Legislative & Congressional Affairs at the Department of Education Gabriella Gomez, the first CHCI alumnus to be nominated and confirmed to an administration post by the U.S. Senate.

Great Minds in STEMTM and the Congressional Hispanic Caucus Institute (CHCI) are partnering for the first time to honor Hispanic contributions to America's Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM) heritage at the inaugural Hispanic STEM Legacy Luncheon.
