CHCI-Telemundo Scholar Intern Shares Her Story
Name: Rosswill Lyons
School: Ithaca College
Major: TV/Radio with a Concentration in International Communications
Thanks to my CHCI Scholarship/Internship, I am currently interning at Telemundo New York where I'm learning about the basics of television production among other skills. I work as a production assistant for the program “Acceso Total” where I specialize in engaging the guests on the show. One of my major responsibilities is to research content for the program and coordinate interviews in Spanish with distinguished guests. Occasionally, I assist with legal documentation and the procurement of music licenses. I also update on a daily basis the program’s “Acceso Total” Facebook page. Sometimes, I even go out with reporters and accompany them during on-scene broadcasts.
One day I hope to work in front of the camera as a Spanish language broadcaster. Therefore, one of the most enriching opportunities I have while I am at the site is speaking with the professionals about how they obtained their careers and learning more about them. These include producers, directors and reporters. While interning at Telemundo, I have also gained interest in working as a director. I am extremely grateful for this internship experience made possible by the Congressional Hispanic Caucus Institute, which has proven to be both inspiring and entertaining. I am one step closer to my dream career.
