A Message from CHCI’s Chief Executive Officer Esther Aguilera
On the heels of CHCI's 35th landmark year celebrating the keeping of our founders’ promise to the next generation of Latino leaders, we opened 2013 with a Welcome Reception & Swearing-In Ceremony for the Hispanic members of the 113th Congress. We thank Vice President Biden and Dr. Jill Biden for their participation in this historic event.
Thirty-five years ago we had but a handful of Hispanics in Congress, which together formed CHCI to focus on educational advancement and leadership development opportunities for Latino youth. In 1981, CHCI brought its first class of four graduate students to Washington, D.C. I am proud to report that last year we kept the promise to nearly 1,700 young Latino leaders, and we continue to grow.
Last week’s event represents an enormous milestone in the history of our great country and our community as we welcomed to Congress the largest class of Hispanic members - 36! We are energized to begin 2013 with so many of our supporters and friends who join us to pledge their support to the CHCI mission. CHCI will continue to keep the promise of our founders - developing prepared Latino leaders for a strong America.
¡Feliz Año Nuevo!
