Ready to Lead

Get Excited About Going to College

Can one Saturday really change your future? It can if it’s spent with CHCI at a Ready to Lead (R2L®) event. Hosted in several cities across the country, R2L® events bring together local Latino high school students for a fun, interactive college preparation seminar. At the end of the day, you will leave energized and excited about your future. You’ll also know what important steps you need to take (and when) to apply and pay for college.

*Your city not on the list? Contact CHCI to learn how to bring this dynamic event to your area. There is a minimum $30,000 initial commitment needed to fund start-up costs and operating expenses for the program, but given the large numbers of students we serve, our signature college readiness program has the lowest cost per student of any CHCI program. This allows for a very high return on investment in the local community and the R2L host college.

Does R2L® Come to My City?*

Past R2L® Cities Include:

  • Bronx, NY

Build a Competitive College Application

During R2L®, you will participate in interactive workshops and teambuilding exercises, hear college planning advice from successful Latino leaders and educators, receive financial aid tools and resources, and learn skills that will prepare you for college. At the end of the day, you’ll have the tools you need to build a competitive college application and the confidence to apply!

Be Inspired by Successful Latino Leaders

You will be inspired by the personal stories of triumph from successful Latino leaders who generously give of their time as guest speakers and mentors during R2L® events. During the “Mentoring Power Hour,” you will meet in small groups with these role models—many of whom are successful CHCI Alumni who have completed the Congressional Internship Program or the Public Policy Program. They will demonstrate how a college education is a big key to your future success and motivate you to have more confidence to achieve your dreams. There’s also time to ask them your specific questions, so you can get straight answers from Latinos with similar experiences.

Explore a College Campus

The R2L® program partners with local community colleges to host events on campus. You’ll no longer have to imagine the experience of being on an actual college campus—you’ll spend an entire day on one! This will help you picture “your future self” successfully earning a college degree.

Meet Up with Other Latino Students

R2L® events convene hundreds of local Latino high school students, creating a new network of friends. You’ll get to know each other during teambuilding exercises and small groups throughout the day. Through the “Mentoring Power Hour,” you will meet successful area alumni who are happy to stay connected and be a trusted resource when you need it.
