The CHCI-ZGS Communications Scholar Intern program is designed to allow junior undergraduate students to not only receive monetary support for their education, but also gain hands-on experience in a media related field through an eight-week internship during summer 2017. Click here to apply!


During Summer 2017, CHCI and ZGS Communications will award up to four internships in ZGS Communication's Telemundo TV Station in Tampa and digital operation ( in Miami, Florida. Interns will gain hands-on experience working in media with ZGS Communications staff.

Each internship will be a minimum of eight weeks long, with the possibility of more time. Interns are expected to work 32 hours per week for eight weeks during summer 2017, and will be compensated at $12 per hour. ZGS Communications anticipates placing two interns in their Tampa Telemundo Station and two interns in their ZGS Digital Office in Miami.

CHCI—ZGS Communications Scholar Intern Program

Please Note -- You must reside in either the Miami or Tampa, FL metropolitan area during Summer 2017 to be eligible for the scholar-intern program, as ZGS Communications and CHCI do not offer housing or transportation. Scholar-interns must have their own housing that is close enough to get themselves to work each day.


CHCI scholarships provide recipients with a one-time scholarship of $2,500 to pursue an undergraduate degree. Scholarship awards are intended to provide assistance with tuition, room and board, textbooks, and other educational expenses associated with college enrollment.

Scholar-interns will receive their scholarship divided into two checks during the 2017-2018 school year after they have completed their internship; one check for $1,250 in the fall and one check for $1,250 in the spring. In order to receive their checks, scholar-interns must submit a verification of full-time enrollment. CHCI manages the disbursement of the scholarships; an annual check is sent directly to recipients.

Eligibility Criteria:

Selection as a CHCI-ZGS Communications Scholar Intern is based on a combination of the following criteria:

  • Full-time enrollment in an accredited four-year university in the United States or Puerto Rico for the 2017-2018 academic year.
    • Open to current juniors only. All applicants must have at least one year of full-time enrollment remaining in their program.
    • Individuals that will graduate in May/June 2017 are NOT eligible for the CHCI-ZGS Communications Scholar Intern Program
  • A declared major related to media, specifically consumer marketing, journalism, communications, digital or social media, news, radio and television broadcasting, research, sourcing, or sports;
  • Demonstrated financial need
  • Consistent, active participation in public and/or community service activities
  • Strong writing skills
  • Housing and transportation in the greater Miami or Tampa, Florida area
  • Applicants must be U.S. citizens, lawful permanent residents, asylees, or individuals who are lawfully authorized to work full-time without restriction for any U.S. employer and who, at the time of application, possess lawful evidence of employment authorization.

NOTE: Individuals who are seeking consideration under the “Deferred Action for Childhood Arrival” (DACA) policy must possess an Employment Authorization Document at the time of application
