The Congressional Hispanic Caucus Institute is proud to present the 2008-2009 National Directory of Scholarships, Internships, and Fellowships for Latino students. This is the only publication in the United States to provide a comprehensive list of scholarships, internships, and fellowships targeting Latino youth. This year we are celebrating our fourth edition.

Hispanics are the largest and the youngest minority group in the United States at 14.4% with projected growth of nearly 40% over the next two decades and 100% by 2040. We have reached a critical time in our history, and it is imperative that our future generation of Latino leaders is armed with the education and professional skills to succeed in a competitive job market.

More than 87% of Hispanics do not have a bachelor's degree. This is partly due to economic hardships many students face when preparing to go to college. The scholarships listed in this directory will help many high school and college students afford a higher education and go on to finish their college degree. This inclusive listing not only presents detailed information on national and regional scholarships, but outlines the process for completing a successful application as well.

CHCI's goal is also to provide a source for aspiring young Latinos to gain invaluable experience to help prepare them to become contributing members of the workforce. The internship and fellowship programs listed in the directory offer significant opportunities to travel, gain hands-on work experience, and to learn how to make a difference.

There are no limits to what our nation's growing young Latinos can achieve. We hope this guide helps you on your pathway to success!

Sincerely,

Esther Aguilera
