Major: Political Science
Placement: The Office of Rep. Diana DeGette

Alessandra was born and raised in Salt Lake City, Utah. Her father is originally from Peru and her mother from Puerto Rico. Both parents moved to Utah as adults and made it their goal to instill in their children a love and respect for their Peruvian and Puerto Rican cultures. As such, it is a priority for Alessandra to give back to the Latino community and inspire the younger generation of Latin Americans to obtain an education. On campus, Alessandra spends a lot of her time volunteering. She is the president of Flyte Scholastics, a tutoring club that is dedicated to empowering underprivileged students in the New Haven area through academic assistance and mentoring.

Alessandra is currently a rising senior at Yale University majoring in Political Science with an emphasis on studying former authoritarian regimes and their challenges to successful democratization and economic stability. In addition to her studies, Alessandra is a research assistant in international theory and military history. Upon completing her undergraduate degree, Alessandra plans to go attend law school.

As a CHCI intern, Alessandra hopes to learn more about the legislative process and obtain a greater understanding of US foreign policy and international relations. She plans to use this experience to complement her studies and inspire those in her community.
