She has dedicated the last seven years to public service and civic engagement as she has a strong sense of community and the passion to be a positive agent of change.
Alexis is working towards a double major in Chicana/Chicano Studies and Political Science with a minor in Management at the University of New Mexico (UNM) as a New Mexico Leadership Institute Scholar. Alexis has immersed herself in the UNM community participating in multiple organizations and serving as the Vice President of Chapter Relations and Standards in her sorority Alpha Chi Omega. She has recently been selected as a recipient of the 2019 UNM Leadership and Involvement Award; the Arthur J. Harvey Scholarship; and the Albuquerque Metropolitan Alumnae Panhellenic Scholarship.
Alexis interned at the New Mexico State Legislature as both an ENLACE and UNM Legislative Intern. She co-authored Senate Memorial 12 which recognizes the effectiveness of community-based, youth centered programs created in Doña Ana County, and served as an Intern on the Congressional campaign for U.S. Representative Deb Haaland (NM-D1).
Alexis hopes to deepen her understanding on the federal legislative process, develop lasting connections and further her passion for politics as a CHCI Intern. With a great love for her state and hometown, she wishes to continue to pave the path for future Latinx leaders and pursue a career in public service.
