Ana was born in Mexico but raised in Atlanta, Georgia by her mother who immigrated to the United States from Mexico at the age of 18. Growing up, Ana watched her mother work full time to keep a roof over her head and understood the hardships her mother endured to give her better opportunities. Ana is a first-generation college student and understands the importance of higher education; she is also one of the beneficiaries of Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA). With DACA, Ana was able to receive a valid driver’s license and work legally in the U.S. During the summer of 2016, she worked for a non-profit organization called Latin American Association under the education sector. The organization served to connect Latino youth to higher education.

Ana is currently a senior at Delaware State University through The Dream.US scholarship majoring in Public Health. Upon completion of her undergraduate studies, Ana aspires to become a leader and break the barriers of Latino’s accessibility in the health care system. Ana hopes to obtain a dual master’s degree in healthcare administration and physician assistant. Her ultimate career goal would be to work for the United Nations.

As a CHCI intern, Ana hopes to gain insight into legislative processes and healthcare policies. She hopes to be able to use this experience to make a difference in the Latino population by tapping into the knowledge and wisdom they already possess and to help the flow of communication to ensure economic growth.
