CHCI-Walmart Congressional Intern
Hometown: Newberg, Oregon
School: Linfield College
Major: Spanish
Placement: The Office of Senator Jeff Merkley

Antonio was born in Jalisco, México and immigrated with his family to the United States at the age of four to the small town of Newberg, Oregon. As a young child his parents instilled in him the importance of obtaining an education as they didn’t have the opportunity to get one. He will be the first in his family to graduate from college and he is happy he can accomplish not only his American Dream but that of his parents as well.

Antonio is a junior at Linfield College in McMinnville, Oregon where he is double majoring in Spanish and Secondary Education with an ESOL Endorsement. His main goal is to become the teacher that he never had and empower the next generation of Latino leaders. Antonio has been a strong advocate of immigrant rights, especially for DACA recipients, as he himself is one.

As a CHCI Intern, Antonio hopes to gain knowledge of how the legislative and policy processes work and more specifically policies on Education. He hopes he can use the knowledge he gains at CHCI to improve the education system so that it benefits all students regardless of their background.
