Bertha Guerrero was born and raised in Santa Ana, California. In 2008, Bertha graduated from the University of California Los Angeles with a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science.
While in school Bertha was admitted into Justice Corps, an umbrella program under AmeriCorps. As a Justice Corps member, she provided assistance to Self-Help Legal Access Centers and the LA County Department of Consumer Affairs Small Claims Advisor. At the Self-Help Legal Access Centers, Bertha assisted diverse group of self-represented litigants in cases through one-on-one contact legal workshops, referrals and legal paperwork in the fields of housing, civil and family law.
After graduation, Bertha worked in a law firm as a paralegal, focusing on bankruptcy law. She maintained familiarity with Federal and California court system Chapter 7 and 13 proceedings, creditor representation, and all facets of motion and appellate practice.
As a CHCI Public Policy Fellow, Bertha would like to gain hands-on experience in federal policy decision-making. Her primary focus is to address healthcare, education, affordable housing and immigration issues.
