CHCI-Walmart Intern

Hometown: San Juan, Texas

School: University of Texas Rio Grande Valley

Major: Political Science

Placement: The Office of Rep. Henry Cuellar

Carlos Garza was born in the small border town of McAllen, Texas. He is a first-generation college student and the son of immigrant parents. Carlos grew up witnessing his parents face many challenges due to their limited education and language barrier. This experience inspired Carlos to pursue a higher education and to encourage other Latino students to do the same.

Carlos is pursuing a bachelor’s degree in political science with a minor in economics at the University Of Texas Rio Grande Valley. He serves as the historian of the Pre-Law Society and secretary of the Voto Latino chapter, a non-partisan organization that mobilizes Hispanic voters. Carlos hopes to attend law school at the University of Texas at Austin, and bring attention to the injustices faced by immigrant families in the United States.

As a CHCI Intern, Carlos looks forward to representing his hometown and proving that with hard work you can achieve your goals. Carlos is confident that he will discover the next steps to lead him to success and advocate for his community, by strengthening his professional skills and through the experience that the internship will provide.
