Consuelo is a Tempe, Arizona native and currently a junior at Arizona State University majoring in Global health with a minor in Urban Planning and a certificate in Cross-Sector Leadership. Consuelo is affiliated with the Next Generation Service Corps; Refugee Integration, Stability, and Education (R.I.S.E); Hispanic Heritage Month; and Women’s Skate Club. Consuelo hopes to be a health advocate in her community for marginalized populations including mothers, children, immigrants, people of color, and the LGBTQ community.

Through an internship with the city of Tempe, Consuelo conducted research and created an index for the city to measure and track the health of the population. Consuelo was able to gain insight on the challenges that arise when attempting to address health issues, and the ways in which policy shapes health.

Consuelo recognizes the important role that policy plays in community health, and therefore plans to use her CHCI experience to better serve her community in this regard. This is also the first time she will be living somewhere outside of Tempe, and is excited to step out of her comfort zone.
