Daisy Martinez is a senior at Arizona State University (ASU) pursuing a bachelor’s degree in Business (Communication), along with a double minor in Public Relations and Media Analysis. She is the daughter of hard-working parents who immigrated to the United States from Valle de Chalco Solidaridad, Mexico. For most of her life, she was raised by her paternal grandparents and sister in Phoenix, Arizona.
After having watched her dad struggle working multiple jobs to provide for his family, Daisy is now proud to be the first person in her family to be graduating from college. She is also proud to be an inaugural member of the Obama Foundation Community Leadership Corps. As part of the program, Daisy and her team implemented a community project in Phoenix focusing on creating access to learning materials through education, awareness, and partnerships. Daisy has also been a wish granter for Make-A-Wish Arizona. It gave her a new perspective on life and learned the impact one person can have on another, on a family, or even a community.
As a CHCI intern, Daisy hopes to deepen her knowledge and experience in the legislative process. She hopes to strengthen her leadership skills to continue to empower the Latino community. Upon competition of the CHCI internship, Daisy is determined to work in a social responsibility role to fuel purpose and profit by improving the environment and doing social good. In the future, Daisy hopes to obtain an MBA degree to drive more opportunities for diversity in the workplace for Latinos.
