Dyan Urias was born in Yuma, Arizona and raised between the border towns of San Luis, Arizona and San Luis Rio, Colorado, Sonora. Dyan is currently a first-year student at Arizona State University, where she is double majoring in psychology and family and human development. She is the first in her family to attend a four-year university and hopes that her younger brother will follow in her footsteps. Dyan developed an avid passion for her own academics and for the promotion of education in low-income communities after witnessing her family’s struggle due to their lack of education and their status as farmworkers.
As a CHCI and HEP CAMP Intern, Dyan hopes to strengthen the skills necessary to become a leader in her community. Dyan hopes to gain knowledge on all the different contexts and challenges other Hispanic communities live through in order to obtain tools to solve and alleviate the gaps in the economy and education that her own community suffers from.
