Glendy Alvarez was born in Cambridge, Massachusetts but was raised her whole life in Lynn, Massachusetts. Glendy is a young woman of Latina descent and takes pride in her culture. Glendy’s parents migrated from El Salvador to the United States to achieve the “American Dream.” Glendy wants to make her parents proud and accomplish her own dreams. Glendy is currently pursuing a degree in Political Science & International relations with a double minor in Criminology and Latin American & Carribean Studies. At Stonehill College, Glendy is affiliated with Mundos Apartes Tierras Unidas (MATU) a Latinx Club, and HOPE Service Immersion Experiences that focused issues on immigration, education, and poverty in California and Peru. In addition, this past summer she interned at a Women’s Resource Center in Armenia.

She aspires to have a career in public service in order to continue to have a positive impact on communities and the people in it, as well as experiences that will have a profound impact on her personal growth. To her, the amount of injustice in the world reminds her why it is important to devote her life to public service and she believes that interning in the nation’s capital will give her the resources to do that. As a CHCI intern, Glendy hopes to further enhance her leadership skills to be a better advocate for marginalized individuals and to dismantle the systemic racism that oppresses them.
