Guillermo Ortiz was born and raised in New Jersey, and is an avid supporter of his home state. Growing up in South Orange, he developed a profound interest in the energy sector and environmental issues. Guillermo earned his B.A. in global environmental change and sustainability from Johns Hopkins University in 2014, where his capstone paper highlighted the impacts of climate change and implications for the New Jersey coastline.

After graduating from Johns Hopkins University, Guillermo interned with the Office of Congressman Jim Costa, where he focused his passion for environmental policy. More recently, Guillermo worked with a private sustainability consulting firm – Third Partners, LLC – where he worked with high-growth commercial and nonprofit clients to implement innovative sustainability programs.

As a CHCI Public Policy Fellow, Guillermo wants to learn how to better engage the Latino community to collaborate to solve and prevent environmental issues. Guillermo’s ultimate goal is to bring people together to develop sustainable solutions to the complex environmental, social, and economic issues facing the world today.
