CHCI-Walmart Intern

Hometown: Hemet, California
School: University of California, Riverside
Major: Business Administration, Management
Placement: The Office of Rep. Raul Ruiz

Isabella was born in the border town of Chula Vista, California. Her immigrant parents are originally from Tijuana, México. After moving frequently, her family later settled in the town of Hemet, California.

This fall, Isabella transferred from community college to continue her studies at the University of California, Riverside, majoring in Business Administration with a concentration in Management and a minor in Political Science. She is currently an Ambassador for the Office of Student Engagement, pursuing research through the Honors Program.

With her military veteran father as an inspiration, Isabella interned with the Office of Rep. Raul Ruiz M.D., where she advocated cases for veteran constituents that addressed disability claims, employment, and housing.

This year, Isabella played a significant role in three political campaigns at the state and local level to reinstate affirmative action and elect people of color in political leadership. Isabella has recently participated with various prestigious organizations such as the Harvard Public Policy Leadership Conference (PPLC), the Hispanas Organized for Political Equality (HOPE) College Leadership Program, and the UCLA-Luskin PPIA Public Service Weekend (PSW), where she discovered how her experiences are essential in giving a voice to those who cannot speak for themselves. After her undergraduate studies, she plans to acquire an M.P.A., become a member of Congress, advocate for marginalized communities, and inspire future generations of leaders.

As a CHCI Intern, Isabella hopes to learn more about the lawmaking process, conduct legislative research, all while making lifelong friends within the CHCI community.
