CHCI–Walmart Intern
Hometown: Santa Maria, California
School: California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo
Major: Political Science
Placement: The Office of Rep. Salud Carbajal

Jorge Gonzalez is a fourth year Political Science student at California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo. He is studying Political Science with the hopes of affecting change by working to improve policies that directly affect his community.

Jorge was born in Mexico but was raised most of his life in the agricultural town of Santa Maria, California. As members of a hard-working community, neither of his parents graduated high school and have jobs that require them to work from dawn to dusk. His parents are his biggest motivators in the pursuit of his educational and professional goals. He hopes to not only give back to them but to his community as well. He understands the importance of providing guidance to young people of similar backgrounds to not be forced to drop out of school, end up in prison or worse because of the circumstances they must live with.

As a CHCI intern Jorge hopes to gain experience and knowledge of how public policy is made, but most importantly how people work together to achieve a common goal. He is grateful for the support from friends, family and faculty and looks forward to sharing his experience with his community.
