Hometown: Phoenix, Arizona

School: Arizona State University

Major: Business Administration

Placement: The Office of Rep. Ruben Gallego

Jose Anca is first-generation and the proud son of immigrants who came to the United States from Mexico City, Mexico and Havana, Cuba. Jose was born in Phoenix, Arizona and was exposed to the same poverty and hardships that many immigrant families face. His mother encouraged him to embrace the opportunity to succeed and create a better life for himself, his future family, and his community.

Jose is pursuing a bachelor’s of science in business management at the W. P. Carey School of Business at Arizona State University. He hopes to apply the skills he has learned in school to his work as an activist and as a volunteer in his community. During his sophomore year, Jose was elected Co-Chair of his M.E.Ch.A Chapter and also National M.E.Ch.A Coordinating Council Member for National M.E.Ch.A. He has volunteered with multiple organizations that seek to improve the lives of those who are marginalized or oppressed within society. Jose’s interest in public policy and activism has led him to consider pursuing a master’s in public administration.

As a CHCI Intern, Jose hopes to learn how policy is created and to gain a deeper understanding of our governmental bodies. He looks forward to expanding his professional network of individuals who also have a passion for creating positive change. Upon graduating, Jose hopes to work his way up to become a city manager or to work within the city’s Department of Economic Development, where he will use what he learns from CHCI to give back to his community.
