Juan Hinojos Zapien was born in San Francisco Del Oro, Chihuahua and immigrated to Phoenix, Arizona with his single mother at the age of two. Juan is a first-generation college student, whose passion for higher education and learning was instilled by his mother’s dream for a better life for her children.

Juan is a Senior at Arizona State University pursuing a bachelor’s degree in Political Science and a minor in Global Studies. While at Arizona State University, he has become a brother of Sigma Lambda Beta International Fraternity Incorporated, dedicated to give back through community service and creating cultural awareness for his community on campus and the greater Phoenix area.

Upon completing his undergraduate degree, Juan hopes to work on Capitol Hill for a member of Congress. His ultimate career goal would be serving in public office and representing the community he grew up in on a national level.

As a CHCI intern, Juan hopes to further his understanding of the legislative process on a national level, as well as network through the many opportunities that CHCI offers. He hopes to return to Arizona and utilize the skills he learned in DC to improve his community and himself.
