Marcus Frias was born in New York to parents of Puerto Rican and Dominican backgrounds. Having lived in 7 states and raised by a single mother, Marcus has worked to make a positive difference in the world and involve himself in his community. He’s worked with the Superintendent of Miami-Dade County Public Schools to create a student rights forum and a digital citizenship program, and was appointed to the Superintendent’s Advisory Committee.
Marcus served as a CBS News fellow at WFOR-TV (Miami’s local CBS affiliate) for the special projects investigation team, and as an intern for Florida International University’s External Relations Department where he managed social media accounts and outreach campaigns.
Most recently, Marcus served as a Congressional Intern for Congresswoman Tulsi Gabbard at the district office in Honolulu, Hawai’i.
In school, Marcus served as a Community Outreach Liaison for Relay for Life, Secretary and founding member of FIU’s Best Buddies International Chapter, and as an Orientation Leader for over 6,000 FIU incoming students. He is a proud brother of Pi Kappa Phi Fraternity, serving as philanthropy chair and coordinated events for The Ability Experience, a non-profit organization that serves people with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD). His fraternity raised over $65,000 and gave over 5,000 hours of service to the IDD community.
As a CHCI intern, Marcus is looking forward to the incredible opportunity to meet and hear the stories of his CHCI peers, and hopes to learn and grow both professionally and personally through the experience.
