CHCIComcast Intern
Hometown: Cicero, Illinois
School:  Western Illinois University
Major: Political Science
Placement: The Office of Rep. Nanette Barragan

Margarita Sotelo attends Western Illinois University where she is majoring in International Relations & Comparative Politics with a Pre-Law and Anthropology minor. Her parents immigrated from Mexico to a predominantly Latino town on the outskirts of Chicago called Cicero.

As a first-generation college student and the first in her family to leave home to pursue a higher education, she hopes to pave a pathway for her family. Growing up in a closely guarded community Margarita didn’t experience discrimination until her time at college. Despite these hardships she chose to become active in her community to create change and help create a university environment welcoming to students of all backgrounds. She became actively involved on campus with organizations, on campus jobs, and as a Sister of Sigma Lambda Gamma National Sorority, Inc.

Through CHCI she looks forward to working with individuals in various fields to learn about their experience and gain advice as someone soon entering the workforce. As an intern on Capitol Hill, she hopes to further explore her passion for politics, strengthen her leadership skills, and make lifetime friends and mentors.
