Matthew Yanez was born in Los Angeles, California and is the oldest of three siblings. Matthew is motivated by his family, and considers them the main reason he’s found himself where he is today. His mother immigrated to the US from Mexico at the age of 7 and his father was born in the US shortly after his parents migrated from Ecuador. He hopes that he’ll one day be able to give back to his parents as a way of saying thank you for the sacrifices they’ve made for him.
Matthew is a junior at Cal State Northridge studying political science and minoring in communications. From a young age, Matthew has enjoyed traveling and learning about different cultures. Matthew has a dream of going to law school and one day working for the District Attorney’s Office as a prosecutor.
As a CHCI Intern, his goal is to acquire as much knowledge and experience as possible to use down the road whether when at law school or if he chooses a more political career after this semester. He plans to utilize those around him as a means of making connections as well as hearing what they have to offer in the career field.
