Hometown: Kennewick, Washington
School: University of Washington
Major: Political Science
Placement: The Office of Migrant Education, Dept. of Education

Rosa Carballo was born in Kennewick, Washington to a mother who was born in Nayarit, Mexico. She is currently a first-year student at the University of Washington with a declared major in political science. She is the first in her family to attend a four-year university and serves as a role-model to her younger siblings who are also seeking a higher education. The struggles that her single mother faced due to economic restraints and structural vulnerability has undoubtedly given Rosa the motivation to break systemic barriers and excel in everything she sets her mind to. Rosa is a passionate and devoted individual who does not allow her adversity to limit her dreams of becoming an attorney and uplifting the marginalized voices in her community.

As a CHCI and CAMP intern, Rosa aims to enrich her professional development in governmental and political processes, which will ultimately provide the experience needed to better advocate on behalf of her Latinx community and other disadvantaged communities.
