1. What field of study do you intend to pursue if you receive the CHCI Scholarship, and how will it benefit the Latino community?

I would like to pursue a career as a child psychologist. I want to get my bachelor’s degree in psychology and then complete my masters in clinical child psychology. Like adults, children have problems and often times need help. According to statistics, depression in kids has increased over the years. I want to be able to work and interact with children because I enjoy it. I would like to have as much internship experience as possible because I want to be prepared for my career.

I want to be instrumental in the development of a stable community where other immigrants who come in to the country can make the transition into American society. Many immigrants undergo drastic changes while in transition from their country to America. Unfortunately, children are the most affected by these changes. Furthermore, in New York, I can see a great need to help in underserved areas.

My professional goal of becoming a child psychologist stems from the fact that I can see myself helping people in the Hispanic community. My Hispanic heritage has been a major influence in all aspects of my life. I want to be an inspiration, as my mother is to me, to motivate young people to pursue their education.

It is my goal to own a clinic consultation office. I am committed to helping children.

2. How Has the Scholarship Changed Your Life?

I would like to give a special thanks to the CHCI Scholarship Program. The CHCI Scholarship has made it possible for me to go to college and have the opportunity to reach my goal. My financial background has never been good and I was really worried about how pay for college at Syracuse University. Fortunately, CHCI makes it possible for me to continue studying my majors and experiencing the opportunity to go to college.

The scholarship also made it possible for me to cover my college expenses. I was able to buy books for my classes and cover other expenses as well. The CHCI Scholarship has also given me the opportunity to save and study abroad next year.

It is a wonderful feeling to have when you have generous scholarships supporting you. Once again, thank you very much for enlightening my path to the future and believing in myself.
