Steven Gualpa Pelaez is a first generation Ecuadorian-American born and raised in New York City. He attends Baruch College – The City University of New York (CUNY) and is majoring in Finance and Investments with a minor in Political Science.
On campus, Steven developed his leadership skills through various leadership positions in professional organizations. However, his most notable position was serving as Vice President for a national business organization, Association of Latino Professionals for America (ALPFA). As Vice President, he facilitated workshops and provided one-on-one mentorship to a significant portion of the organizations members to help prepare them for career prep programs and internship/full-time opportunities.
Outside of school, Steven graduated from two national, distinguished career-prep programs known as Seizing Every Opportunity (SEO) and Management of Leadership for Tomorrow (MLT). In addition, he secured two competitive summer internships on Wall Street covering Structured Finance at Moody’s Investor Service and Investment Banking within the Industrial Coverage Group at RBC Capital Markets.
Lastly, he is a Director of Partnerships for Diverse Influencers, a non-profit organization based in New York City, with the mission to professionally develop and prepare freshmen and sophomores for their future careers in the business, technology, or other related fields.
As a CHCI intern, Steven aims to identify the skill sets needed to develop a successful career in Congress. Post CHCI, Steven intends to work in the financial industry where he will continue to develop his technical and financial acumen. His long-term goal is to pursue a government position and give back to his community in The Bronx.
