CHCI-Gilbert and Jacki Cisneros Foundation Intern
Hometown: Los Angeles, California
School: Brown University
Major: Education Studies
Placement: The Office of Rep. Jimmy Gomez

Yamileth Renteria is a first-generation Mexican American from Los Angeles, California. Witnessing the sacrifices of her parents and the accomplishments of her sisters motivated her to work hard for a quality education. Her family inspires her to advocate for the rights of the members of the Latinx community.

Yamileth is a junior at Brown University pursuing a degree in Education Studies, and was driven to pursue her field upon learning about gentrification, poor quality of schools, and lack of healthcare access in her own neighborhood. She is committed to using learning as a tool to empower the Latinx community.

As a CHCI intern, she hopes to learn how to navigate public policy to serve underrepresented and historically marginalized people. In the future, she will work with her community to help them find the power in their efforts and voices.
