Candidates for CHCI-AA New York City Chapter Board
2021-2022 Term

President

PAMELA CARDOSO
Summer 2019 Congressional Intern

Pamela is a first-generation graduate of Rutgers University, where she centered her coursework around issues that most provoked her curiosity: social equity. During her undergraduate years, Pamela worked in her community as Braven’s Vice-President, a leadership and career-building organization. She partnered with Newark’s Office of Sustainability to develop programs that aimed to bring sustainable efforts to Newark’s neighborhoods. She also devoted her time to volunteer with organizations to provide housing affordability and equity in education. She has previous experience interning for the NYS Office of the Attorney General as a Mediation Specialist, the Congressional Hispanic Caucus as a Congressional Intern, Clean Water Action as a Policy Analyst, and organizations devoted to empowering first-generation students, Rutgers Future Scholars and Braven. She is also a fellow recipient of Michelle Obama’s Reach Higher Institute, Newark College Institute, and the Educational Opportunity Fund. Currently, Pamela is working at the Center for Alternative Sentencing and Employment Services as a Legal Assistant, where she hopes to increase public safety through services that reduce incarceration and create opportunities for success in the community.

Candidate Statement

I was raised in a country that promises equality and opportunity, and while that promise has been broken for several individuals in my community, my Latinx heritage inspires me to use my every-day reality to improve the lives of others. I have had experiences that prepared me to perform meaningful work in the Latinx space, such as community organizing in campaigns, researching policy issues on Capitol Hill, and lobbying legislators for immigration reform at the NJ State House. My particular interest in the role of Vice-President for the NYC Regional Board is in providing my Latinx community the opportunity for social equity on Capitol Hill. I am determined to contribute my personal and professional experiences to aid the President and the rest of the board members in developing solutions for our CHCI community.
