CHCI Welcomes 38 Congressional Summer Interns to Washington D.C.

Today, CHCI welcomed its 2016 Summer Congressional Internship class. Thirty-eight undergraduate students traveled from 17 states and the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, to take part in the nationally recognized CHCI Congressional Internship Program (CIP).

The CIP works to expose talented young Latinos to the inner-workings of Congress, while preparing them to become part of the workforce pipeline, and staff positions at the highest levels of government. The CIP prepares young Latinos to be role models for their communities and take the initiative of becoming the future leaders of America.

CHCI also prides itself in selecting interns from different backgrounds, origins and academic knowledge, highlighting the rich cultural diversity that characterizes the U.S. Latino community. The 2016 class represents 11 different Hispanic ethnic backgrounds, pursuing 23 different fields of study.

The interns participate in weekly CHCI leadership and professional development sessions and meet with corporate representatives, national elected officials, and foreign dignitaries. They also engage in a community service project during their stay in Washington, D.C., underscoring the importance of giving back and sharing their valuable knowledge forward to their community. The interns are provided with housing, roundtrip transportation and a stipend.
