CHCI Announces 42nd Annual Awards Gala Entertainment: Puerto Rican Salsa Artist, Tito Nieves

Washington, D.C. – August 2, 2019 –This Hispanic Heritage Month, the Congressional Hispanic Caucus Institute (CHCI) will celebrate over 40 years of Latino excellence and leadership development with its signature 42nd Annual Awards Gala, hosted by Bank of America, on September 19, 2019 in Washington, D.C.

Serving as one of our country’s staple kickoffs for Hispanic Heritage Month and the largest and most prestigious Hispanic nonpartisan event for public, private, and nonprofit sector leaders in the nation, this year will feature a special performance by acclaimed Puerto Rican salsa artist, Tito Nieves as the entertainment finale. With a career spanning 30 years, iconic salsa singer Nieves, also known as El Pavarotti de la Salsa, has influenced Latin music and secured a mainstream market for salsa in the English-speaking world with acclaimed hits like the 1997 remake of “I Like it Like That”.

“We are thrilled to have Tito Nieves share his talent with us and bring our signature Hispanic Heritage Month celebration to life,” said CHCI Chair, Congressman Ruben Gallego. “The CHCI 42nd Annual Awards Gala will gather our nation’s agents of change in recognition of our community’s accomplishments and will also serve as a platform to rally behind the progress that continues. With the support of cultural legends like Tito, we plan to rejoice in our community’s resilience, strength and heritage.”
The Annual Awards Gala theme is Familias Unidas and will also proudly honor Dr. Ellen Ochoa and Robert Rodriguez as the 2019 CHCI Medallion of Excellence recipients, celebrating their extraordinary careers and contributions to their respective industries, our community and the nation.
