ICYMI: 2016 CHCI Capitol Hill Health Policy Briefing Series

On April 19, CHCI’s Graduate Health Fellows Heydi Correa-Encarnación, Elisa Morales and Sara Agate, organized and moderated a public policy roundtable discussion comprised of members of Congress, congressional staff, public policy experts, and national leaders, tackling some of the most relevant health issues affecting the Latino community.

CHCI-DaVita Health Graduate Fellow, Heydi Correa-Encarnación, led an instructive discussion on how to increase health literacy among Latinos through different education models. CHCI-PepsiCo Foundation Fellow Elisa Morales was joined by Rep. Beto O’Rourke for an insightful conversation on end-of-life care and how to be financially prepared to fulfill your ultimate end-of-life goals. The day concluded with CHCI-PepsiCo Foundation Fellow Sara Agate’s discussion on tele-health and how it’s broadening the horizons of health service by increasing accessibility regardless of where you live or what language you speak. CHCI Advisory Council member Rep. Xavier Becerra provided closing remarks, emphasizing the need to adopt new technologies that increase access to health services for the growing Latino community.
