CHCI and United Health Foundation Host Summits on Health Issues in the Latino Community

CHCI and the United Health Foundation hosted a special live broadcast of CHCI’s health summits during the 2015 Public Policy Conference. Both summits gathered some of the nation’s top minds for critical discussions on major health policy issues affecting the Latino community and the nation.

Senior Latinos Summit: Empowering Caregivers in Hispanic Families

Rep. Michelle Lujan Grisham

Rep. Michelle Lujan Grisham led a timely discussion on the challenges of caring for an aging population. The panel also covered federal policies and legislation that provides support for caregivers.

A former Secretary of Health and Secretary of Aging & Long-Term Services, Rep. Lujan Grisham is serving her second term representing New Mexico’s 1st Congressional District. She serves as 1st Vice Chair of the Congressional Hispanic Caucus. Read her full biography here.

Health Summit: Health Disparities in the Latino Community

Rep. Raul Ruiz, M.D.

Rep. Raul Ruiz, M.D. and panelists held a productive and eye-opening discussion on best practices and recommendations to combat health disparities in the Latino community. Members of the panel also explored the effects of obesity, diabetes, high blood pressure and other critical health issues on minority communities.

The son of farmworkers, Dr. Ruiz left the emergency room when he was elected to Congress in 2012. He represents California’s 36th District. Read his full biography here.
