Oscar Mairena is an experienced public policy and communications professional who has worked in strategic health communication, public health outreach, social marketing, legislative and external affairs, and advocacy. He has drafted and pushed for legislation and policy change within and outside of government. Currently, Oscar serves as an HIV Community Liaison for Gilead Sciences in the Bronx, NY, working along the continuums of prevention and treatment to help end the HIV epidemic in New York City.
Oscar got his start as a Congressional Hispanic Caucus Institute (CHCI) Public Policy Fellow in the Office of Congresswoman Barbara Lee. He has since served as a Manager of Policy and Legislative Affairs at NASTAD and, most recently, as the Director of Policy and Planning in the Bureau of STIs at the New York City Health Department.
Oscar holds a Master in Public Policy from the Harvard Kennedy School and a BA in Social Welfare with concentration in Public Policy from the University of California, Berkeley.
