Welcome To The VLI

Success is about persistence. It’s about trying and failing. It’s about learning from your mistakes. And it’s about seeking help from others who’ve been through it. Think of the Virtual Leadership Institute (VLI) as a meeting place where you’ll have access to resources that’ll help you get to where you want to be. Whether you have questions about college or graduate school, internships or networking, or whether you need help choosing and starting your career, the VLI is here to help you build the foundation you need to succeed. It’s what we call the Infrastructure of Opportunity. Your success is important to us because you are #Here2Lead.

Leadership comes in many forms – community leadership, public service, civic engagement, etc. – but it all starts with caring about your community and getting involved.

Leadership is about using your platform and your voice for the advancement of those around you. The VLI encourages you to get involved. Find your talent, strive for excellence, stay focused, stay disciplined and above all else, use your voice for good.

Whether you are a Dreamer, or a second- or third-generation American, remember – you are not only here to stay, you are here to lead.

Every American generation goes through a series of defining moments. For millions of young Latinos striving to make a better life for themselves and their families, now is one of those moments. Our mission at the VLI is to help prepare you for success and to help establish your role as part of the next generation of Latino leaders.

The VLI features leaders from the Latino community that best exemplify our principles of leadership. From artists and entertainers to corporate leaders and elected officials, here you can learn what it means to be a leader and find the inspiration to become one yourself.

VLI Principles of Leadership:
Integrity – Tenacity – Compassion – Courage – Humility

The current political climate is threatening to undo decades of hard-fought progress; progress that was earned through sacrifice and the relentless pursuit of equality and opportunity by the many Latino leaders that came before us. We need young, strong Latino voices to preserve their legacies and secure our future and rightful place in this great country. Here you’ll find stories of young leaders that are leading the way.

Success is as much about learning from others as it is about anything else. Regardless of what academic or professional path we choose, we all have a unique starting point and often need help getting to where we want to be. Do you want to learn how to stand out in your college application? How to network? How to ace your job interview? Our toolkit is a good place to start. Here you’ll find helpful tips from leaders from across the private and public sectors who were once in your shoes.

It’s important that the Latino community weigh in on the current national discourse around issues like education, healthcare, immigration and the economy, among others. Here our president and CEO Domenika Lynch shares her thoughts on these issues and other topics that impact our community.

The Gap Between What We Say and What We Do

Throughout my career I’ve had the privilege to serve in various leadership roles and one thing I always kept in mind as I approached each one is, “del dicho al…

The Congressional Hispanic Caucus Institute (CHCI) and Hyundai Motor America share a commitment to investing in and empowering future generations of Latino youth to assume the leadership roles of tomorrow. The CHCI-Hyundai Virtual Leadership Institute (VLI) is the embodiment of this joint vision and furtherance of CHCI’s mission to Developing the Next Generation of Latino Leaders®.

The CHCI VLI serves as a connecting medium between communities across the country and the world, – it would allow CHCI to expand its reach to underserved parts of the country by providing its program participants and community leaders a platform to share their stories, providing an insider’s view to the D.C. experience, civic engagement, public policy, and leadership in the 21st century.

“Hyundai Motor America partnered with the Congressional Hispanic Caucus Institute to present the Virtual Leadership Institute. This visionary initiative provided training to CHCI alumni on best practices in motivational speaking and how to utilize their personal stories to deliver empowering messages.”
