Alejandra Gaytan Headshot

Congressional Internship Program Spring 2014

Alejandra works for Con Mi MADRE, a college readiness non-profit. She’s been serving as Program Director of the El Paso, Texas chapter for the past three years, managing and developing socio-emotional programming for young Latinas and their mothers. Con Mi MADRE supports young Latinas on their road to a post-secondary degree while guiding their mothers to be healthy support systems for their daughters.

She received her Bachelor’s in English and her Masters in Higher Education Administration and Policy from the University of Texas at Austin. She’s currently a doctoral candidate student at Johns Hopkins University in their EdD program specializing in Mind, Brain and Teaching. She has seen first hand the effect that trauma has on the cognitive development of young students and how this affects their performance at school. She’s passionate about higher education access and equity through education reform and mental health awareness.

She was part of the Congressional Hispanic Caucus Institute (CHCI) Internship Program in the Spring of 2014, where she interned for former Representative Beto O’Rourke. Alejandra enjoys spending her time with loved ones, reading a good fiction book, and taking the time to herself to run.
