Alejandra Velázquez serves as the Director of Public Affairs for Oportun, a mission driven financial technology company providing responsible and affordable financial products that help low to moderate income individuals establish credit. In this role, she oversees state and local government relations and grassroots partnerships across the company’s service area.
Alejandra has more than fifteen years of experience executing multi-issue legislative and advocacy agendas; managing relationships with diverse stakeholders and grassroots organizations; and delivering multicultural and multilingual community outreach platforms. She started her career as a field deputy for former California State Assembly Speaker, Fabian Núñez.
Alejandra is a first-generation American/college graduate and native Spanish speaker born and raised in East Los Angeles – a proud graduate of Garfield High School. She earned a B.A. in History from Yale University and a J.D. from UCLA School of Law’s David J. Epstein Program in Public Interest Law and Policy.
