Kevin Vargas was born and raised in Phoenix, Arizona, as the son of parents who instilled in him the value of education and community from an early age. As a first-generation college student, Kevin understands that stability is the foundation from which opportunity grows, and that principle has guided every step of his academic and professional journey.
Kevin is a student at Arizona State University pursuing a Bachelor of Arts in Business Law with minors in Political Science and Classical Civilizations. He is a Dorrance Scholar on a pre-law track, with plans to attend law school. His academic interests in the intersection of law, civic institutions, and public policy were deepened during a semester abroad in Italy, where he studied classical influences on American constitutional design.
On campus, Kevin served as the Executive Assistant to the Hispanic Legal Students Association of America, an organization dedicated to expanding access to law school for underrepresented students. He has also gained hands-on legal experience as a Legal Assistant at RAJ Law, PLLC in Phoenix, supporting active civil litigation through discovery, client correspondence, and court proceedings. Through research at ASU’s J. Orin Edson Institute and bilingual field work on statewide political campaigns, Kevin has developed a grounded understanding of how policy decisions affect communities at the local level.
As a CHCI Intern, Kevin hopes to deepen his understanding of the federal legislative process and explore how policy is shaped on Capitol Hill that reaches communities like the one he comes from in Phoenix.
