Lucy Irene Apolinar-Hernandez was born in Chicago, Illinois, and raised in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. As a first-generation Mexican American student, she is inspired by her family’s perseverance, strong work ethic, and commitment to serving others, which shaped her passion for advocacy, civic engagement, and expanding opportunity.

Lucy is double majoring in Business Administration and Accounting with a concentration in Law Studies at Mount Mary University. She has dedicated herself to community engagement through the United Community Center, Latino Entrepreneurial Network, and Northwestern Mutual. Her experience spans community outreach, bilingual interpretation, nonprofit operations, entrepreneurship, and financial services.

Lucy’s leadership and commitment to service have earned her honors, including the Badger Mutual Insurance Company Wall of Fame, the Hispanic Professionals of Greater Milwaukee Scholarship, recognition as a Hispanic Scholars Program Honoree, the Salvatorian Sisters’ Leadership Award, Dean’s List and High Honors distinction. She has also been involved with the Wisconsin Hispanic Scholarship Foundation, United States Hispanic Leadership Institute, Association of Latino Professionals for America, and Latino Arts, Inc.

Following graduation, Lucy plans to attend law school while earning her MBA, pursuing a career at the intersection of business, law, public policy, and community advocacy. As a CHCI Intern, she hopes to deepen her understanding of policymaking, strengthen her leadership skills, and build meaningful relationships with mentors and policymakers. Through this experience, she aims to gain knowledge, perspective, and network to advance equitable opportunities, create meaningful impact in underserved communities, and inspire future generations of leaders.
