Anyelis Montano is the daughter of hardworking Cuban immigrants whose sacrifices have made her educational opportunities possible. Born and raised in Miami, Florida, she grew up understanding the value of supporting your community. Being the translator for both her immediate and extended family as a child has taught her the significance of having a voice for people of all backgrounds. Witnessing the challenges her family faced navigating unfamiliar systems inspired her pursuit of public service. In the future, she hopes to continue supporting underserved communities as she has supported her own family.

At the University of Florida, Anyelis is pursuing a degree in Political Science and Criminology with minors in Public Service and Public Relations. She serves as Vice President of the Women’s Student Association, where she creates opportunities for women to share their perspectives. She is also Vice President of Changemakers at the William and Grace Dial Center for Speech and Communication Studies, where she helps lead intergroup dialogue initiatives that encourage positive social change.

Anyelis’ professional experience began with working for her family’s small business. As a first-generation college student, she began expanding into the legal and public policy fields with Patiño Law Firm, Gonzalo Law, and the Marion County Board of County Commissioners. These experiences strengthened her commitment to making an impact.

Through the CHCI Congressional Internship Program, she hopes to gain a deeper understanding of legislative policymaking and cross-border relationships, recognizing the role of policy in the translation she has always aspired to carry forward.
