2025 Summer Congressional Interns
Jaquelin Barajas

Congressional Intern, Presented by HEP/CAMP Hometown: Holland, Michigan
School: Michigan State University
Major: Criminal Justice; Public Policy
Placement: Office of Sen. Elissa Slotkin
Jaquelin was born and raised in Holland, Michigan. She is the middle child of immigrant parents who moved to the United States from Mexico and began a family business in agriculture. Growing up amidst the blueberry fields, she became acutely aware of the hardships faced by those working in agriculture. This experience has fueled her desire to delve deeper into the socio-political dynamics that shape policies.
Jaquelin is a first-generation college student at Michigan State University, double majoring in Public Policy and Criminal Justice with a minor in Law, Justice, and Public Policy. As a dedicated student, she is eager to acquire the knowledge and skills necessary to create meaningful change. Previously, Jaquelin served at her local city hall through the Holland Youth Advisory Council and was honored as the 2024 Michigan Youth of the Year by the Boys & Girls Club. She continues to inspire and mentor the younger generation through the Boys & Girls Club’s Epic program. She is enthusiastic about collaborating with students and professionals from all corners of the country who share her commitment to making a positive impact.
Jaquelin hopes to gain hands-on experience in Washington, DC, while sharing insights about the Hispanic and migrant communities of Michigan. She believes the CHCI internship will allow her to expand her knowledge, advance her career and education, and empower her to serve and amplify the voices and stories of those often unheard and overlooked.
