John was born and raised in New York City, one of the most diverse cities in the entire nation. His parents immigrated to the United States from Ecuador in the early 1980s, aspiring for a better life. Inspired by his father’s hard work and resilience, John is committed to using his voice to uplift and advocate for others. During college, he found his own voice and discovered the power of advocacy.
John is currently a student at the University at Albany, New York, majoring in Political Science with an emphasis on Laws and Institutions, as well as a minor in Criminal Justice. He is a proud member of the Educational Opportunity Program (EOP), which provided him with the support and resources needed to pursue a university education without the financial barriers he might otherwise have faced. On campus, he served as a Student Leader for EOP’s incoming freshmen, helping guide students through a successful transition into their first fall semester. Throughout the summer program, John advocated for his students’ needs and supported them as they prepared for college. Upon completing his undergraduate degree, John hopes to obtain his Juris Doctor. His ultimate career goal would be to become an attorney who helps those in need.
As a CHCI Intern, John hopes to strengthen his knowledge of the federal legislative process, as well as grow in every professional aspect, to become a greater person who can advocate for others. John wants to be the difference and be a role model for his younger sister.
