Xylene Rodriguez (she/her/ella) is a legislative assistant for Congresswoman Melanie Stansbury who represents New Mexico’s first congressional district. In this role she covers immigration, education, healthcare, public safety and latino issues. Xylene is an alumnus of CHCI’s spring 2023 Latino Hill Staff Academy. In this program she had an opportunity to engage with other latino hill staffers, growing her network and gaining professional development skills. She is a proud first- generation Mexican American from Greeley, Colorado. She attended the University of Northern Colorado where she received her bachelor’s degree in Mexican-American studies with a concentration in social justice and public policy and a minor in criminal justice. Through her lived experiences and intersectionality of identities she has become dedicated to promoting civic engagement within marginalized communities. In her role as secretary for the DC chapter of the Alumni Association, Xylene will coordinate the scheduling and announcement of chapter activities, be a resource to board members and alumni and continue to uplift CHCI’s mission. A fun fact about Xylene is that her name is a chemical.
