Martin Anaya was born and raised in Denver, Colorado to immigrant parents from the state of Guanajuato, México. From a young age, Martin believed he had a duty to help others from his background. Alongside an emphasis on understanding his cultural heritage, Martin’s parents stressed the importance of pursuing higher education, as each step forward in his educational journey represents an opportunity they never had. These emphases led to Martin’s long-term goal to become an immigration attorney where he intends to advocate for the rights of the underrepresented, the overlooked, and like his parents, those who long for a better life for them and their families.

Martin is a student at the University of Colorado Boulder, where he is majoring in Sociology and minoring in Political Science and Leadership Studies. During his time at CU, he interned at a local immigration law firm, is pursuing an honors thesis exploring migration and assimilation, and is involved in various student organizations and volunteer opportunities. Having served as the 4th-Year Representative of Latiné Student Alliance, Martin connected with students to form a sense of camaraderie at a predominantly white institution.

As a CHCI Intern, Martin hopes to gain a greater understanding of the federal legislative process, explore the intersection of immigration and public policy, engage in leadership development & networking, and contribute to an empowered coalition of like-minded Latino leaders focused on uplifting and advocating for our Latino communities in the United States and abroad.
